Geke Schalkwijk

Geke Schalkwijk is an artist who draws inspiration from everyday life and the patterns of behavior that shape the “modern” Western world. He is intrigued by the idea that contemporary life is something we can design and control, and he seeks to reveal the absurdity hidden within what we so readily accept as normal.

Geke works with ordinary objects, archetypes, and symbols of our time, altering them, distorting them, or placing them in unexpected contexts. Through these transformations, he explores the norms and values that have gradually been attached to these objects and symbols over the years. In doing so, Geke offers a critical yet refreshing perspective on modern life. His work invites us to reflect on the power of our habits and on the extent to which our culture is, indeed, something we make ourselves.

The work of Geke will be on view at DOEN during his first Solo Exhibition ‘STUFF STUFF STUFF’ from February 13 until the 23th of April 2026. For any questions or inquiries please contact info@doen.do
