“Natural Encounters”

I paint without a preconceived plan. The work emerges on the canvas, a continuous exploration of the tension between myself and what comes into being.

Over time, I have increasingly experimented with different techniques, materials, and perspectives. In doing so, I discovered the importance of giving yourself space to grow and evolve, while at the same time remaining true to who you are.

As a child, I was already interested in everything related to art, especially painting. At first, it was simply about looking at beautiful images. At the age of ten, it became more than just observing, when my parents gave me my first box of paints and brushes. From that moment on, I have never been able to let go of painting. I copied images by Chagall from a small book I received for my birthday, took painting lessons in Oosterhout at H19, and soon after decided to attend art school.

At the St. Joost Academy of Art, I began with Graphic Design, followed by Monumental Art and Painting. The academy was also where I studied under, among others, Hans van Summeren.

After graduating, I worked for a period as a professional painter, completing occasional commissions and participating in various exhibitions. However, life led me to set painting aside for a time—holding a job, getting married, and raising two children. In recent years, I have gradually returned to painting, and I now spend most of my free time in the atelier.

The result is this series of works, in which my greatest source of inspiration has been the boundless nature itself, leading me to “Natural Encounters.”

The work of Ronald will be on view at DOEN, at first during Rotterdam Art Week from March 23 until the 29th of May 2026. For any questions or inquiries please contact info@doen.do
